People ask how long it takes. We say forty hours because that's the average. Some pieces take sixty. A difficult shoulder can add a full day.
The Pattern
Every jacket starts with paper. We draft patterns by hand on kraft paper that we buy in rolls from a shop in Porta Palazzo. The same shop has been selling paper since 1948.
A pattern for a new style takes three days. An adjustment to an existing pattern takes three hours. Both require the same concentration.
We don't make clothes faster. We make clothes better. The time is part of the garment.
The Cut
Cutting is the most irreversible moment. Once the shears close on the fabric, that's it. There is no undo. Our cutter, Marco, has been doing this for twenty-two years. He still pauses before each cut.
We use Biella wool for most of our jackets. The fabric arrives in bolts of 30 metres. Each jacket uses approximately 2.8 metres, depending on the size and the pattern matching required.
